1) Choose a topic that you know

If you intend to build a long term business, you have got to find yourself a topic that you love to talk and share about, only then can you succeed in affiliate marketing. Choosing a niche starts from your passion, knowledge, hobbies and interest. Look around you and you will be able to find plenty of hot niches easily.
2) Research the market
Not all niches are profitable. You have to do your own research. The best way to do a research is to carry out a keyword research. This will determine the level of interest from the public. Another good way to do research is to check out forums and discussion groups. They are often a good source to do market research.
3) Find an affiliate product that people want
The third affiliate marketing tip is to promote products that people want. Affiliate marketing is not about selling things. Instead it is about recommending good products to others. Thus, the first thing that you should do is to search for affiliate products that people want and then recommend it. Resources that you can use to search for affiliate products are Google, Amazon and Ebay. In addition, before you promote the products, check out reviews of the merchant and the products from fellow affiliates. You definitely don’t want to deal with a nasty or dishonest merchant.
4) Register your own domain name and build your website
Having your own domain name and website is essential for a successful affiliate marketing business. It allows you to collect information from your visitors and follow up with them later on.
5) Recommend, not selling
The most important affiliate marketing tips of all is to understand the difference between recommendation and selling. In affiliate marketing, you should only recommend the product and send your visitors to the merchant site. Recommend the product from your customer point of view. This will allow you to build a good relationship with your visitors. Do not attempt to sell to your visitors. Leave the selling to the merchant.
6) Follow up with your leads
People normally buy after several exposures to the product. You have to follow up with your leads and tell them the benefit of the product. Believe me, most of your affiliate commission will come from you following up. A good way to follow up with your leads is to use autoresponder, such as Aweber and good email marketing.
